I have got my nexus Card approved today. My nexus card expires in 2023 whereas my PR card expires in 2021. I wonder is it possible to enter Canada from USA by land with a valid nexus card but expired PR card when the card holder did not meet RO (not living at least 2 out of the past 5 years)? If so, it appears that someone with nexus card validity longer than PR card validity can stay in USA longer (after PR card expiry but before nexus card expiry) before returning back to Canada to meet RO.
Anytime you attempt to enter Canada while not meeting RO, you run the risk of being reported and process started to revoke your PR status. Even with a NEXUS card or with a valid PR card you can be reported at anytime for not meeting RO, all it takes is for CBSA to pull you aside and calculate your residency days.

Have not used Nexus, so sharing purely internet knowledge http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/nexus/faq-eng.html
NEXUS members who are Mexican nationals or permanent residents of Canada or the U.S. must travel with a passport. In addition, permanent residents of Canada or the U.S are required to provide proof of permanent residence. You may be asked to present these documents to the officer upon arrival at the border...
My question to senior members is, I have been issued PR Card for one year. My appeal for renewal of PR Card is pending with Immigration Appeal Division, Canada.
1) For how long it is mandatory for me to be present in Canada out of one year period during the validity of the PR card?
2) If I move out of Canada to USA for short visit for 2-3 months, do am I entitled to re-enter into Canada with this one year PR Card?
If you are already appealing a RO, 2-3 mo the outside of Canada while appealing would probably work against you. You need to reside in Canada 2 years out of the previous 5, at any point in time. You're spending that much time in the US is making it easy for them to prove you aren't intending to settle in Canada.
