Hello all, sorry if this topic is already done to death here...but I'm a little confused on the requirement to show driving experience when exchanging her Connecticut license for the equivalent G-class license in Ontario.
As stated, she has been a licensed driver in the State of Connecticut for about 14 years. She landed this past weekend but has NOT brought a car over. When we go exchange her license for an Ontario G-class, is there anything else she has to bring to "prove" her driving experience down there? She actually hasn't driven in a few years because she's been living with me in Canada (and I don't own a car) but prior to that, she was driving everywhere down there.
It would help if she could get her driving abstract from Connecticut. The MOT "may" be able to get it through their computer systems (they are supposedly linked to the US), but no guarantees on that. When I moved here, the computers were down when I went in to exchange my license and I had to wait a while (several hours).
Hound them and make them give you something that shows the date your license was first/originally issued. That's what Drivetest cares about. Your driving record (i.e. accidents/infractions) is extremely easy to get, but in cases like this it's not what they (Drivetest) are asking for.. and it seems most DMV people don't understand that for the exchange Drivetest needs to verify how long you've been driving to do an equivalent exchange.
Agree with Bargeld! I'm going through the same thing right now where I keep being told that the state has no document nor cannot issue a later showing the date I was first licensed (our abstract doesn't show this). Without this, my insurance goes up over $1,000/year. Date when first licensed- very important!!
I landed Toronto a month back and i am not able to exchange my nj license yet. When i went to DriveTest at Richmond Hill the first time, they told me that the nj abstract doesn't have a posting date and they can't accept it. Then i filed a complaint with the customer service and the lady told me that nj keeps on changing its forms and so what in Ontario is called an "abstract" is called by some other name in nj. I went the second time with my old licenses, but still the lady at DriveTest refused to do it.
I called the DMV at Trenton and they told me that i should apply for DO-11 which is Driver License Application History and it takes 3-4 weeks to come. It has been more than 2 weeks now. I am expecting that they send this to my Ontario address which is on the form.
it is really frustrating. My US license also expired and i am not able to go anywhere. Just tied up. can't go back to US since visa expired. Did somebody have the same experience recently? Please help me.
