Hello all
I am currently a student in university and I’ve been in Canada for over 6 years on my student visa.
I am planning on going back home for New Years but I was worrying, if I can still re-enter Canada because I had excessive speeding ticket in May.
Does excessive speeding in Canada count as a criminal record?

Depends on how much over the posted speed limit you were going, and whether you received a federal or provincial charge. Since you don´t already know whether you´ve been charged with a criminal offence, chances are no, not a criminal record. But if you had a lawyer for your case, you should ask.
I am no lawyer. Depends on your ticket. Speeding falls under the "highway safety code". Highway safety code offenses lead to administrative penalties e.g. a ticket and they never show up on police clearance certificates. On the other hand an offense such as a DUI falls unders the "criminal code"and will usually show up on police clearance certificates for the region/country where offense was committed. There's also a distinction between "speeding" and "excessive speeding" and excessive speeding may be considered a criminal offense.
