Hi all. I'm not sure where this question belong, but I hope someone can help me.
I have a PR, originally I'm from Europe and I am planning to travel for a week to US from Canada. I need to fill out an application for ESTA. If someone is familiar with it, could you please help me with the question they have :
Have you ever been issued a passport or national identity card for travel by any other country?
I have British Columbia ID card and social insurance number, are these something they want to know?
Thank you. So British Columbia ID card is just a government id not a national? I have been told I can use that ID card for flights inside Canada? So basically it is for travelling..?
It does not prove your Canadian citizenship should you have it. That's why it's not valid for travel purposes outside of Canada.
A national ID is customarily only available to citizens of that country as is the case in most countries in Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa. The English-speaking countries don't have this concept of maintaining a national register for citizens and instead rely on the fact that you were born in the country and have a birth certificate.
