Hi,

By professional I am an Engineer with postgraduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering-(2011-2013) field(Civil Engineer-(2004-2008)). I have an expereince of 4 yrs too. Recently I came to know about the Canada's express entry visa and I took an IELTS exam. I scored overall 6 with 5.5 in reading and speaking modules. Can anyone tell me whether I will be eligible to apply under express entry visa or not.

1. Express entry is not a visa or permanent resident program. It is an application processing strategy. If you receive an invitation to apply, you will still have to qualify under one of the existing programs (e.g. FSW, CEC, PNP...)

2. Are those IELTS scores or the CLB? You have to convert to the CLB level to determine if you meet the requirements (CLB allows the scores of different tests to be directly compared).

For example, IELTS reading score of 6.5 is CLB Level 8...

For FSW, you need CLB Level 7 in all skill areas...

you should also be aware that the profession of "Engineer" is regulated in Canada. Professional engineers need to hold a P.Eng qualification, normally achieved via a 4-year degree followed by an additional 4 years working as an Engineer in training under the direction of a professional engineer.

You will need to get your qualifications and experience assessed and may need to undertake further examinations/educational courses.

Yes engineers are regulated in Canada and will need a license to practice. In most of the province (if not all), you have to have 1 year of Canadian engineering work experience to qualify for the exam. So if you have worked as an engineer for 4 years outside of Canada, you will still need to work under a P.Eng for 1 year and then take the professional exam. Some provinces recognizes P.Eng or EIT experiences in other countries.
