Hi guys,

I am preparing for my CEC application. I was a postdoc at a research institute and work in statistics. I saw many posts saying it is better to apply as a statistician. I am now drafting the employment letter and not sure how this can be mentioned appropriately. Should I mention that I was employed as a postdoctoral fellow, statistician? If anyone could post a template of employment letter for postdoc, I would be very grateful. Thanks,

If you plan to apply with noc 4011, than your reference letter should prove that you performed at least 5-6 duties listed for noc 4011 (such as giving lectures, advise students etc). Otherwise you might be rejected.

I only do research. My job duty matches 4011 only on one point. That is too risky. So I want to apply as statistician, which is NOC 2161 Mathematicians, statisticians and actuaries. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks,

That is the right approach. Just make sure you check the "Classified elsewhere" NOCs at the bottom of the page, to make sure you have the best fit... Your letter can say that you were hired as a post-doc to work as a Researcher or Statistician...

Thanks for your response. I will apply as a statistician. Do you have any suggestions about T4A? Cause I saw many people got rejected because of T4A. Should I include a letter to explain? What should I stress in the letter? Thanks,

I dont think T4A is a big problem now. Just attach a simple cover letter saying that 1) you are a postdoc in Statistics and NOC 21XX better explains your duties. 2) Most of the institutions issue T4As for postdocs, and your T4a is different from the self-employment T4a and you pay tax for that. Also attach your notice of assessment.
