A question on behalf of friend, who want to apply her wife sponsorship. He applied for Employment Insurance EI and he got back his money because he was jobless since last 6 months and he need money. Now the question is whether he can apply her wife sponsorship CIC will approve him as sponsor? Any idea they called EI as government funds of what? basically in his thoughts EI his own amount which deducts from his salary during employment period.
Yes, he can sponsor his wife. EI is deducted from your pay and is available if you lose your job through no fault of yours (i.e. you were not fired). It is not welfare. Since he does not work now, when he applies, it's important to include a cover letter explaining how he plans to support himself and wife. If any family member will be helping him(them), the person can also write a letter stating this.
Receiving Employment Insurance will not affect him getting sponsorship. My husband has received it before and he was approved.
As long as he can show how he will provide for his wife if she becomes a permanent reaident.
