I am reviewing the forms and in Section 14 of IMM 5768, I will have to fill employment history..
I have an incorporated business (I am an IT contractor)
Technically as it is incorporated I am (Self) employed with that business throughout the year. But my business gets contacts and I work at client's place for the duration of the contract.
Say for 2017 I have this scenario:
1. 2017-01-01 to 2017-12-31 - Self Employed (being only shareholder/Director of incorporated business)
2. 2017-01-01 to 2017-04-28 - worked for a client A for these 4 months (technically I was employed by my own incorporated business)
3. 2017-06-05 to 2017-10-27 - - worked for a client B for this duration (technically I was employed by my own incorporated business)
My query is how should I depict in employment history section. Can I simply mention as Self Employed (incorporated) from 1st Jan 2017 to 31st Dec 2017 - Hope it should be fine. Point #2 & #3 I am not contractor with Client A or Client B its my incorporated business.
Within the year I was not working for few months, hope you got what I am trying to say and is it fine?
For 2016 I worked 5 months as full time employee for a telecom company (IT) and 4 months as a contractor for another IT company 3 months was not having any work (but was shareholder/Director of my incorporate company). While on contact it was my same incorporation (which was registered in 2012).
So for 2016 can I write as:
2016-01-01 to 2016-12-31 -- IT Contractor (self employed)
and
2016-02-08 to 2016-05-27 -- IT Manager - telecom company (IT)
Thanks @canuck78 for your prompt responses. Such a big relief on having this clarification. I can mention straight as self employed from 1st Jan to 31st Dec (even though for few months I was not working in between - but was incorporated)
Can you please please confirm if I can specify below listed for year 2016 ? (as for around 4 months I worked as Full time employee)
2016-01-01 to 2016-12-31 -- IT Contractor (self employed)
and
2016-02-08 to 2016-05-27 -- IT Manager - telecom company (IT)

Hi Canuk78
I needed your guidance
I am filling imm 5768
I have been working as incorporated IT contractor for different companies ( one contract at one time). I have been filling taxes under my own corporation. So I guess I can write as follows
Do we write incorporation number in there to like
Self employed (incorporation: 12345 canada limited) - from 2016-01-01 to 2016-12-31
OR simple say without incorporation number
Self employed ( IT services) -from 2016-01-01 to 2016-12-31
Also ther address and contact number on my registered corporation is same my residental address and phone number as I worked at different client locations depending on contract..
since they have asked for employer address and contact number. Should I give my address and number there or the client/ company I had contract / worked with.
I am reviewing the forms and in Section 14 of IMM 5768, I will have to fill employment history..

Hi @JEDI-007 - Not sure if you will even see this now but i'm a bit confused with the IMM 5768 form and cannot seem to find any other recent threads on this topic. Similar situation as yours so i'm wondering how you ended up filling out the form and what supporting documents did you provide ?
2021 : I worked full time so I have T4
01/2022 - 07/2022 - Full time - have T4 for this duration
08/2022 -12/2022 - Contractor ( Incorporated)
01/2023 - 12/2023 - Contractor ( Incorporated)
I guess on the form i should be selecting self-employed as that is my current employment status. Should i be providing my SIN # in the form ? Should i provide a letter of explanation and all my paystubs /corporation income proof as supporting documents ?
If anyone here could guide me through this, would greatly appreciate.
