Hi,
I will be joining a company in Montreal (a remote employee) but in all likelihood work from Ottawa. The company has plans to open office in Ottawa but it could take a few months from now. For me, since my goal is a canadian PR and I have zero french knowledge. I am trying to work out the following options, please advice:
Option #1: Reside in Gatineau,QC but commute once in a while to Montreal . Pay QC taxes and apply for any federal PR programs after my first year with canadian experience.
Option #2: Reside in Ottawa,ON but once in a while to Montreal . Pay ON taxes and apply for tax refunds in QC and apply for any federal PR programs after my first year with canadian experience.
Option #3: Reside in Montreal, QC . Pay QC taxes and apply for any federal PR programs after my first year with canadian experience.
I am trying to pick the option that'd work best in terms of offering the lowest cost of living, lowest taxes and offer the best options with PR. Please suggest your inputs are greatly appreciated.

If you have a closed work permit you should be living in Montreal. There will be a location specified on the WP. In general WP are not granted for remote work because there would be no need to be living in Canada if you could work remotely.

Thank you for your response. I thought one can reside anywhere inside Canada still be tied to a work/office location. Also mine is / will be a closed WP whenever I get it in the next 2 weeks or so.

You won’t be able to qualify for OHIP given your job is in Montreal but as specified before there is a location on your closed WP. The employer had to specify why you needed to work in Canada so shouldn’t be a remote only job because there would not be a need to be in Canada if the job was 100% remote.
