Hi, My pr card is expired... I applied for new one very recently... hopefully they will send me in june...I got a very good job... But they are asking for any valid immigration ID or Document? PR Card is just travelling document & it is not my resident status... I Shared with them all updates & the whole information but unfortunately still they are asking for any valid immigration document or ID? IS there any kind of immigration Document or ID when your PR card is in under renewal process? Or can you give me any solid argument please... waiting for your reply... i will be really very thankful to you...
It is the opposite: PR Card IS an evidence of your RESIDENT status. Your landing papers? That you used for "landing' at POE or at CIC office if you were getting your PR inland.
There is no law in Canada stating that you must renew your PR card when it expires or even have one at all except for travel. However, as most PR's do have one, it has been on the increase that govt. establishments such as health care, drivers licensing etc. and even employers are asking for a valid PR card as proof of your status.
Right now, you need something to calm your employer. I suppose you have already told them that you have applied to renew your card and are waiting for it as well as shown them the printout of the CIC website where it lists the processing times.
If that is not enough for them, I suggest that you talk to an immigration lawyer and ask them to write you a letter explaining the law and processing time of PR card renwals. It may help your employer feel that you are not some illegal immigrant trying to scam them.
As far as I know, immigration issues no statements or temporary ID cards to PR's who are waiting for renewals. However, for next time, keep in mind that you may apply to renew your card as early as 6 months before expiry so if you do that, you should have the new one before the old one expires.
Thank you very much... Is there any free service for this kind of letter by lawyer? Can you guide me with phone numbers or site address please? Waiting for reply... Appreciate your support
What lawyer? Do you have or do not you have "your copy of COPR is an official document that proves that you are a landed immigrant"? You are avoiding to answer this question and it looks like you do not have an idea what COPR is.
So I start thinking your employer is right about asking you for a proof that YOU really ARE a Landed Immigrant.
Sorry actually i missed that question about COPR... COPR means confirmation of permanent residence .... Is this right? I got this landing paper 6 years ago .... It is still with me... So no expiry of this paper? So can i submit for my recent status? Appreciate your guidelines ...
