I was a paramedic in the US for 4+ years. On some lists, I see "Paramedical Occupation" (noc 3234) listed as a qualifying occupation as far as work experience for the Skilled Worker path to immigration. Some lists leave it out. Does it count towards the experience requirement still?
More importantly, I just graduated from a 2-year Radiologic Technologist degree program. The equivalent occupation is "Medical Radiation Technologist." As I am a new graduate, I not have any experience in this field. My goal is to immigrate to Vancouver as a Medical Radiation Technologist. Will my 4+ years as a paramedic satisfy the experience requirement for skilled worker immigration even if I plan to work as an MRT?
I really am hoping for some good news because the job market is crap in the US and I hear Canada is hurting for MRT's.
Basic eligibility is to have 1 year full time work experience in one of the eligible occupations. Since you don't have 1 year full time work experience in NOC 3215 - Medical Radiation Technologist, therefore you are not eligible to apply under this NOC.
NOC 3234 - Paramedical Occupations is also included in the eligible occupations under Federal Skilled Workers Program. Please see below:
You are eligible to apply under NOC 3234 - Paramedical Occupations, therefore I suggest you to apply under NOC 3234. Once you are in Canada as a Permanent Resident under Federal Skilled Workers Program, you are free to work as Paramedics or MRT or whatever suitable.
