I am having a hard time wrapping my head around the statement eligibility period. I have gone all the whole web and its still not making any sense. Please somebody enlighten me on how to be sure am eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship.
I first moved to Canada October 20, 2014, and i applied for Citizenship grant June 2018. With the new rule law i would hope that i am eligible but am confused as i filled the physical residency calculation it says 2013 till 2018 is my eligibility period (more specifically within the last 5 years i have to have been present 3 years?)
Seems pretty clear that in the 5 years preceding the submission of the application you need to show a minimum of 3 years physical presence in Canada. So if you apply this month your 5 years eligibility period would be 11/2013 through 11/2018 where you need to show 3 years accumulated presence.
The 3 years can be made up of any time prior to being a PR at one half day per full day to a max 1 year credit added to anytime post becoming a PR or just any time after becoming a PR . The key being actual physical presence in Canada so vacations or business trips outside of the country cannot be counted in the 3 years total.
