Hello There,

I have Egyptian nationality (Muslim has beard) and I live in USA since 2014. I want to share my experience here and this is the first time ever I do that. I applied for PhD study permit on 21-March-2016 and I asked for passport on 21-Aug-2016. I have full funded scholarship for my PhD program. In addition, I had a scholarship for a course in the middle of Aug and I surely missed it. What I want to say NO PANIC just calm down and wait until the first 5 months pass :).

Hallo Wael

I am Egyptian muslim too (without beard :) ) and I applied for the study permit for a funded PhD in Montreal. I applied from Germany (processed in Vienna) at June 17 to start at Fall. I still have no response till now and U made me very worried brother as then I should expect my study permit in November!!!! :( :(

Do u have an idea why it took that long? U had a degree from US so why it should b fast!!!!! Is the security screening that strict? Did u told ur Canadian supervisor to interfere to speed up the process or he could not help in that?

Regards
Mohamed

Hi Guys,

I want to apply for a study permit in Canada but I need to pursue a scholarship ,so i am still on search, can you please how did you find this scholarship and also i am afraid of the study permit process as the visa officer has to be convinced that i will leave Canada after finishing my study so would you please tell me how to prove that knowing that i live in Qatar with my husband and i am working there.

Salam Mrs. Ibrahim

I got this scholarship by contacting a potential supervisor and he offered me a PhD position in his lab. However, I think there is some universities provide a structured programs for a PhD but I do not know much about them unfortunately. But anyway u can proceed in both directions and contact as many as u can. I did not get mine from the first shot :-)

Unfortunately, I do not for sure how to convince the VO that u will leave Canada but from what I saw here in this forum there r some tips. If u provide a letter of leave from ur current employer and mention that u will come back after finishing ur study, Also u can show u have family ties in ur home country (e.g. parents in Egypt). Personal assets in ur home country I think also help!

Mohamed

To be honest, I do not know for sure, but to my knowledge it is just for the first year, u do not have to show the money enough for the whole period. If ur husband will b dependent visa, the money should b enough for u both i.e. tuition fees for the first year plus living expenses for urself and ur husband. for more info, consult some one who might b more experienced. best of luck 4 u :-)
