ECAS?

Okay, so I submitted my e-APR, got AOR the same day I submitted it and I just got an update on my medical today-says it passed. I've seen ECAS floating around the forum, my question is: what is ECAS and at what point can/should I get one?

Current status is as follows:

Application/profile status: Open
Review of eligibility: Review in Progress
Review of medical results: Passed
Review of submitted documents: No additional documents are needed at this time
Scheduling an interview: Not needed at this time
A background check is needed: Not Started
Final decision: Not Started

It's the old system for tracking paper applications. It is being phased out in favor of MyCIC. Paper applications (QSW, family class, etc.) are slowly being transferred from ECAS to MyCIC: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/my_application/link.asp
