I know this topic has been discussed earlier ((http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/how-long-after-the-medical-results-t7553.0.html) and have some ideas (upto 45 days), but I wanted to share the change.
I would love to hear some fresh perspective as far as the NY consulate is concerned or general opinions on average times.
any update is better than nothing. Mine has never been changed from "we received your application on....), even now 8 months after the medical, nothing. I sent them an email, all they said was that due to high volume of mail inquiries, they can not give me any information.Isn't that frustrating?

I totally share the feeling, this is the first time I am seeing *any* change after 7 months in the status. They have not yet responded even with an acknowledgement since my query to them last week.
But yes, the change was definitely encouraging.
Which office did you apply from, I am reading form some other threads that the delay can be caused by background checks from certain countries.
Providing your medicals are satisfactory you will recieve the request for the passports in the next few weeks.
Your medicals are probably fine. If there was anything to be overly concerned about your Doctor would have informed you of it.
Well done.

Seems Buffalo was pretty much overloaded during the time we applied ( perhaps the economy ) so we received a formal communication from CHC that our file was transferred to speed it up. I can kinda say it moved as we received our medical request sooner than Buffalo would have sent it.
That thought crossed my mind too! Folks here have said that the PPR arrives by email, but the lawyers snail mail address is in eCAS and I dont know how my updating email would affect the communication mode, so am not taking any chances with updating information. Might as well ride out the few days extra that they will send it by mail.
I wrote to New York last to last week, I notice only the status change, I do not know if the email had to do anything with it.
As I know, the insurance does not cover the medical. But I might be wrong, you might bring your own insurance card and ask anyway. It might also depend on what insurance plan you have.
Good luck
Ok, that means you did send them an email to ask your status before the status change. Will, I might just wait a week and see how thing is going. I might also check with my bank if RPRF is encashed or not.
