I was born in Canada from American parents, I lived in the USA for 28 years and moved to Canada for 10 years. I have moved back in the usa and plan to retire in a few years. Can I move my residency to Canada but visit USA all year long? with still having canadian health care (with the purchase of travel health insurance)?
You will be unable to stay on provincial medicare in Canada if you don't maintain residency. For example, BC MSP requires to reside in BC for 6 months a year to maintain MSP coverage. Once you move, usually there is a 3 month wait to establish coverage. You'll need to wait for 3 months every time you lose residency and re-establish yourself in the province from outside of Canada. You may be eligible to apply for US medicare once you are 65 or older. You may to supplement it with travel insurance but it could get expensive and not every thing may be covered.
