My wife’s mother was a natural-born Canadian. My wife and I live in the U.S. She also has Canadian relatives in Toronto.
We want to retire to Windsor, Ontario as we have vacation rental interests in the state of Michigan.
We would be financially self-sufficient through a combination of private pensions, U. S. Social Security, IRA, and deferred compensation payments. Further, albeit very healthy, our medical needs would be covered by Medicare and a Medicare supplement in Michigan (U. S.).
My question is:
Can my wife apply for a Certificate of Citizenship, and then sponsor my application for permanent residence in Canada? Naturally, she would agree to be “financially response” for me as we have been married for about 30 years.
Any opinions on timelines would also be appreciated.
Thanks,
Christopher
