My husband was born to Canadian parents in the US. He is a Canadian and American citizen, but has lived in the US for the last 15 years. We have a 3 year old child (who we understand does not get Canadian citizenship through my husband because he was already grandfathered in by his parents).
We plan on moving to Toronto in the summer. (His parents and extended family are all citizens and live in the area.) I plan on applying for inland PR via family sponsorship through my husband. I have a valid American passport. What would the best route be to get to Canada with my husband? How can I move there and then apply for PR? Should he take our things across the border and I follow later on my passport and not mention I plan to move to Canada? That seems devious and makes me nervous.
When we visited his parents they asked my purpose and I stated visiting family and they didn't pry, but this is different.
I have read I can apply for an OWP once I have applied for PR. Is this correct? I have my bachelor's degree and will have some, but not a ton, of work experience.
I'm overwhelmed. I've read and reread the Canadian Government website regarding family sponsorship and OWPs, but am struggling to understand where to start.

Based on the information you've provided, your son is second generation born abroad and therefore will not qualify for Canadian citizenship through your husband. This is generally limited to the first generation bord abroad (your husband). So your son will need to be sponsored for PR along with you.
Yes, inland is certainly an option for you. You will qualify to apply for an OWP once the PR application has submitted and IRCC has given you AOR (typically a coule of months after the inland application is submitted). Since your husband is Canadian, you shouldn't have any issues traveling across the border together.

You're right, your son will not get citizenship automatically by descent.
When you are sponsored by your husband, you'll include your son as your dependent. When you become permanent residents, you will have to meet the requisite requirements including residency (1095 days in five years).
Your son as a minor will not have to do that, a PR-minor child of a citizen in Canada can apply immediately - or in other words, he can apply for citizenship the day after arriving in Canada and becoming a PR (and it will be approved). Okay, it'll take a bit of time to get docs together, and some months for them to process his citizenship, but not that long. Took us about 8-9 months after landing including getting the passport (and we weren't rushing).

You could start the process now by submitting an Outland application. You would not qualify for the OWP, but the overall process may be faster. Besides, even with an Inland application you have to wait for the AOR email from IRCC (which takes [insert best guess, here]) before you can even submit the OWP...then wait some more.
