Hi all
Am in last minute preparation prior to landing Toronto. Re driving licence in Toronto. I have obtained international driving licence valid for 1 year from Aug and carrying original driving licence issued in my country valid till 2013. Should I also need to carry an experience certificate from RTA of my country and it is a must?

I guess the 'experience certificate from RTA' shows your driving experience. This is not a must but can help you to get a insurance discount. I heard that you cannot get the discount in Ontario, but you can in BC.

The documents that you have (IDP+ Valid driving License) will let you Drive in Ontario, Canada for 3 months.

To get a new license you will need to take a written test and driving tests for G2 and G License. If you bring the experience letter there is no waiting period for G2 and G driving test else there is some mandatory waiting period.

In a nutshell it is advisable to bring the experience letter from your transport/licensing department

In order to get a direct G1 licence, you should obtain the certificate from your Licencing Authority, in their original letter head ( means no photocopy sheet, plain paper or computer printout ) with seal, stating that you were driving in that country for more than ...... years ( period you were holding valid licence) . If you are in the middle east you may only get it in Arabic which need to be translated and attested by the Canadian embassy/Consulate in that country. If such certification is accepted when you go for a Ontario Driver's licence, still you have to appear and pass their written test. You will be getting a G1 driver's licence which could allow you to drive with limitations.
