There is no such thing as a 180 day rule, whoever told you that is clueless about PR obligations. The only rule is that you need to be in Canada for 2 of every 5 rolling years.
So that means you could leave Canada immediately after landing for 3 years less a day, then come back to Canada and stay for 2 years, and still be in compliance with the residency obligation.

Not continuous as long as you accumulate 730 days out of the 5 years but make sure you keep good records of any exits and returns back to Canada to show if you need to either when renewing your PR card or if you stay out for an extended period.

And remember after the first 5 years, it becomes a rolling 5 years. So in year 6, year 1 comes off, year 7 year 2 comes off, etc... You have to maintain that minimum 2 years at any point in the last 5 years. That catches a lot of people.
