We have an immigratiobn helper and she provided me with the latest status on Friday:

Application/profile status - Open
Review of eligibility - Review in Progress
Review of medical results - In Progress
Review of submitted documents - No additional documents are needed at this time
Scheduling an interview - Not needed at this time
A background check is needed - In Progress
Final decision - Not Started

The last time something changed was in November, according to her.
I am not sure about the "background check is needed". Could that mean, that I need to provide CIC with additional documents or is that status normal, if they just check it?

I think it means they will check it by themselves. You only provide documentation if they ask for it.

That's what I thought too. I was just a bit nervous and thought our immigration helper missed maybe an email . Thank you!
