I have an immigration lawyer, and her assistant was collecting our necessary paperwork for my wife's spousal PR app.
I am a Canadian citizen (born here) and a naturalized U.S. citizen.
She initially told me because I am Canadian citizen who lived outside the U.S.A., I would need to get FBI and state police certificates. But when she found out I was a U.S. citizen, she said I didn't need to get them.
Is this true, about needing them if I wasn't a U.S. citizen?
Do I even need my U.S. citizenship for my wife's PR app?
Since you are the sponsor you are not required to produce police checks, but your wife, the applicant needs to. She'll have to provide FBI checks and go through a full medical examination.
You will be asked to submit proof of your Canadian citizenship, as well as proof of your relationship to your wife, such as marriage certificate, pictures, etc.
It's all on the Guide: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3910e.pdf

I too am Canadian born citizen, who is also now a dual US Citizen, sponsoring my husband, and no you do not need FBI or police certificates. And, even if your were not a US Citizen, the Sponsor is not asked to provide FBI certificates/police checks. The Sponsor application asks about serious criminal charges, etc. and I suppose you could be asked to provide further information/documentation if you indicate you have had criminal convictions, but they are not asked for as part of the initial application.
