I'm going to mail in my application for a common-law sponsorship and include an open work application, but my visitor visa extension ends on April 1st. I was wondering if I will have implied status once my visitor visa ends because of my open work application that will hopefully be received and in processing by March. If not then I'll be applying for another visa extension in March, I'm just wondering weather or not its necessary and I can only find answers for people renewing their work permits, not switching from a visitor visa to an open work permit.

Yes, you will have implied status.
As long as you apply for OWP before your current visa expires , you'll be under implied status till they makes a decision.
