We are planning to apply for a marriage license in Toronto, Ontario.
I have a Latvian citizenship, but my fiancee is Canadian
Reading the official Ontario website (https://www.ontario.ca/page/getting-married) it's not clear to me which documents are required from my side to apply for a marriage license. In particular I am interested if I need a document that shows my marriage status in Latvia, birth certificate and etc. Can I just come with my passport?
The documents list seems very clear to me. It states you need to bring 2 forms of identification. From this list, assuming you are not yet a Canadian resident, it seems that your passport and birth certificate would be the easiest ones for you to bring.
"To get a marriage licence, you will need to:
bring 2 pieces of government-issued identification for each person getting married. One piece of identification must include your photo.
Examples of government-issued identification:
government-issued birth certificate, including any change of name certificates
It means I will I need to translate the birth certificate then.
I have a Latvian driver license as a 2nd identification piece. Do you know if it should be translated to english as well?
You can also use a International drivers license if you have one as you second piece of ID. It is what we used along with my husbands passport. No translation needed for either.
In order to get married in Canada, you need to apply for a "marriage license", which expires in 90 days. Once the marriage/ceremony is over, the authorized official provides a "record of solemnization", this is used to apply for a "Marriage certificate" which is what CIC/IRCC is looking from married people who apply for Spousal Sponsorship. The authorized person will send the forms that the couple has signed during the ceremony to get registered.
I am not sure about other countries, as I got married in Canada. As long as the marriage is registered with the country, and they have issued a marriage certificate or a similar document.

You need to get a Canadian marriage license to marry in Canada. You cannot use a license from any other country to marry in Canada. You can however get married in your home country and use that as your record of marriage. But you will need to have that marriage certificate translated for your application if it is not in English.
