We have a flight to Toronto this week and have a few queries:
1. What all documents we need to make sure we carry apart from our passports and COPR letter?
2. What all things we need to do as soon as we land there?
3. What formalities we'll have to fulfill at the airport?
4. We are a family of two and carrying 8k CAD with us. Is this enough?
Any help regarding this is highly appreciated.
Thank you.
1. It is suggested to carry POF as well, if asked for, at the time of landing. Also depending on situation, you must carry list of goods accompanying and goods to follow. Use your discretion to carry other documents you submitted as a part of application - ECA, IETLS etc etc.
2. You can apply for SIN, bank account and get yourself a new SIM. Again depends on what you plan is (permanent shift Vs soft landing)

Thank you for an elaborate reply. We are planning to shift permanently, hence wanted to make sure we don't miss any documents here especially those needed for Immigration.

I guess you aren't carrying $8k for PoF, right? If it is for expenses, you should break it down by your immediate expenses. Best if you create a Google/Excel sheet and list out all major expenses you'll face in it.

Sorry i didn't get you. 8k is for proof of funds as well as for our daily expenses till the time we open an account here and get rest of our money transferred from India.

Ah! If you are going to get the remaining transferred via wire, you should be good as you'll be able to open a bank account within a few days of landing. Do keep in mind that you'll have to face 20% TCS on the amount transferred out of India for this wire transfer. If you've already exceeded the 7 lakh INR limit of TCS, you'll be charged TCS on $8K CAD too.

TCS can also apply to you if you are cross the limit and are carrying cash too. Let's say you exchanged currency to get $10k in cash, you'll get only $8k as the rest would be on hold till you file returns in 2024.
