do i need to reapply a new visa?

I am an international student from malaysia and currently studying in canada. I lost my passport few months ago and received a new one recently without the visa. Do I need to reapply a new visa and a new study permit? Are the two different things? I am currently in Canada and planning to go back home soon. Please advise me on this matter.

It is possible to obtain a replacement for your study permit document in Canada without having to reapply, consult form IMM 5545E. It is also possible to replace the visa counterfoil without reapplying for a new TRV when you are outside of Canada.

It is best to have a police report about your lost passport should this be asked from you.
