Do I need to extend my visitor visa? I have applied my PR and OWP last December

Hi there,

I am in Canada on a visitor visa until April 12th, 2016. I have married a Canadian and has applied for my PR (in-land spouse) and Open Work Permit at the same time in December 2015.

QUESTION: Do I have to extend my visitor Visa or Do I do nothing because of my work permit application will give me 'implied status'? FYI, other people who applied for the same thing last November have received their open work permits already this month.

Any help/reply you can give is appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.

You do not need to extend your visitor visa; however, if you are getting close to April and still have not received your OWP - then I would recommend that you do extend your visitor visa. I hope this helps.

If you haven't received your OWP by April 12th, apply to extend your visitor status online on that day.

Even though you are under implied status right now, if the OWP and/or Inland application is returned, because of incorrect payment (many people fail to include the extra $100 `Permit Holder' fee of $100 for the OWP), outdated IMM form, missing signature(s), you would risk losing implied status. This could deem you ineligible for the OWP.
