I have a job offer in Toronto with my current company. At present I am working in UAE.
Since the work permit waiting times in Abu Dhabi is 7 months, my company is planning to apply work permit through New York Canadian visa office which is 2 months.
Do I have to be in person in NY to apply for the work permit ?My company already has appointed a immigration lawyer in Toronto for the work permit.
In case I have to be in person at NY does my wife also need to accompany me to NY?
The following people can apply to have their application processed at the visa office at the Consulate General of Canada in New York:
Citizens of the USA (including Puerto Rico)
Persons lawfully admitted to the United States (including Puerto Rico)
Citizens of Bermuda
Persons lawfully admitted to Bermuda
Persons who hold valid visitor status in Canada (for work permit applications only)
If you are currently in the UAE, NYC will not process your application. You should either be in Canada or NYC. If paper application, you will need to stay in New York until they released your WP since you will be submitting your original passport.
Anyhooo...since you are using a consultant based in Canada, they might have other ways...
I don't think dependents need to be present for now since it's you who's applying for a WP...but I am not an expert. It's just my opinion.
What do you mean by paper application being ruled out? Are you lodging your application ONLINE? So you won't be staying in NYC for the duration of your application? Meaning, you will just fly to the US for the entry record then apply ONLINE and fly back to the UAE? I am planning to do the same....please let me know how this pans out for youl.
