Hi All,

I am new to this particular section in Canadavisa forum.
I am currently in Vancouver on open work permit. I am trying to purse a 6 months degree in BCIT. Want to know whether do I need to get study permit for this(6months full time degree)?

If I need let me know how do I get it.

Let me know

1. Yes you need a study permit as the course is full time 6 months or more. You apply here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study.asp
2. You know that once you receive the study permit, your IEC will no longer be valid.

I have gone thru the link.

If you wish to study in a short-term course or program
You do not need a study permit if you plan to take a course or program in Canada that lasts six months or less. You must complete the course or program within the period authorized for your stay in Canada.

If I understand correctly, I don't need study permit if course is 6 months or less. But I should complete the course before my Open work permit validity.

Am I right?

If less than six months it's find, but if it is six months, and a degree program, I suggest that you call CIC's call centre and they will help you determine. I called them about a short course I took and they were helpful.
