I will be applying for a study permit at the port of entry in Calgary on May 1st. Will I ABSOLUTELY need a police clearance certification and a medical evaluation. The CIC website only says that I MAY need them. I know it will make my case stronger. And it's better to be safe than sorry...but the police clearance takes 13-16 weeks and I'm leaving in about 9 weeks. CIC is about as much help as any government or University website is in explaining things. X3 I would really appreciate any answers! I may or may not then proceed to freak out.

have u been in US the whole of past year? what i am trying to find out is if u lived in anyother country other than US for more than 6 months in the past year? if u have been in US the whole time then no u dont need PCC or medical.

I visited Canada for 3 months with my host family last year. Other than that I have ALWAYS been in the USA.

But my plane ticket is for May 1st... Can I just visit Canada then for 3 months for leisure/vacation/volunteer time and get driven to Calgary from Saskatchewan and apply at their port of entry? :/ Or can I visit for 1 month, go back to the US for two months and come back to Canada for school at the port of entry in August about a month before school starts?

Also, this says that it is required for IMMIGRATION. For student study permits, it says that it MAY be required. If I have not been in another country for more than 6 months and have only ever been in the USA (minus 3 months vacation in Canada last year), why would it be required to have a police clearance certification?
