Do you have a travel history at your border crossing? Are they generally easy about folks going back and forth? I ask because I see so many Americans posting about crossing the border frequently with no problems and that's a head-scratcher for me because I live at one of the crankier borders. When I went to the States to meet my husband's family, they made me buy a return bus ticket despite the fact that I own a house in Canada, had a job I was returning to, and had pets and a pregnant daughter waiting for me to come home.

You should not require a return ticket for her if you are crossing in a personal vehicle, especially if you are with her. Just make sure that she isn't travelling with everything she owns, just in case they pull you into secondary for a look. Carry only what she would need for a 'vacation' of say a few weeks (holiday trip perhaps?) and send the rest via UPS or something. Send it in your name. All should go OK. Answer any questions they ask and also carry a copy of your application and let them know if they appear anxious that you have already filed for her PR and are awaiting a decision.
