I have recently received my PR under spousal sponsorship. The officer at the interview told us that I need to stay in Canada for 2 or 3 years (can't remember exactly) out of 5 years so that I won't loose my PR residency. Now the problem is my husband might get a job offer outside Canada and the company is not a Canadian own. I know if we leave Canada I will loose my PR status (he is Canadian so no problem with his status). I was wondering if there are special conditions for people like me. For example, instead of loosing I could keep the PR status but the days I spent outside Canada won't be counted when I applied for citizenship? We will be coming back after couple of years say 5 years(max)anyway. I don't mind re applying, it just take sooo long to receive the result. It took me almost 2 years to receive my PR and it is difficult not to see my family back home for that long. Does any of you know anything in this regard? Is it even possible? Or I just have to bite the bullet and re apply?
If you accompany your canadian husband abroad, you will not lose your PR status. You will remain PR even if card expires or you live outside Canada for extended periods. You can get a PR Travel Document from canadian embassy to return with your husband to Canada whenever you move back.
No such luck for citizenship, for that you will have to sacrifice and live in Canada and meet the requirements for citizenship application.
I think CIC haven't had announce how to apply the official permanent residency after you go through the conditional PR, but general PR renewal ruled you are eligible as long as you stay with your spouse or common-law partner even you don't reside in Canada for 1095 days.
Here is the quote from the guide:
If you were outside Canada for 1095 days or more in the past five years
If applicable:
proof of your relationship to the Canadian citizen you accompanied abroad and proof of his or her citizenship; and
proof that your Canadian citizen spouse, common-law partner or parent was outside Canada with you;
proof of your full-time employment to a Canadian business abroad.
That's correct, so long as your husband is a Canadian Citizen, your time abroad with him counts towards maintaining PR but not towards a citizenship application. Just to be clear however, the requirement is "730 days" or 2 years, the previous poster's quote is in the context of being "outside" Canada for 1095 days or longer (3 years).
Thank you all. You made my day, well night as long as I don't have to re apply and go thru all those procedures and wait for PR I'm good. I don't mind waiting for the citizenship as I'm not planing to run for presidency yet ;D
