Hi everyone,

This is my first post. I received my first stage approval. The letter says:

"It has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent resident status as a member of the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class.

However, a final decision will not be made until all remaining requirements for becoming a permanent resident have been met. These requirements include medical, security and background checks additional requirements for applicants divorce certificate. You cannot become a permanent resident until you have met these requirements."

I don't have a divorce certificate. I just provided with my application a notarized statutory declaration that my previous marriage was dissolved and I entered in a common-law relationship with my sponsor. Is this not enough? Do I really need to provide the divorce certificate?

I'm really confuse now. I really need your advise.

Why don't you have a divorce certificate? If you can get it, it would be best to do so.
Also, what country are you from? And what country were you married and divorced in?

I'm from the Philippines. I'm not divorce and it is not recognize in our country. Do you have any advise or suggestion?

I don't know why the cic is requesting for the divorce certificate.

Anyone, please help me on what to do.

Send in a letter explaining that divorce is not allowed in the Philippines, but that your marriage is over. Maybe include a copy of the relevant Philippine law.
The inland visa officer reviewing your file may not be aware that divorce is not allowed in the Philippines. If you meet the definition of common-law, though, you should be alright.

Are you Outland or Inland app? Don’t you worry just wait and see what IRCC will gonna say about your application because if they are not satisfied with document pertaining your separation from your previous spouse they will send you a letter for additional documents or explanation letter so you have enough time to prepare.

Im from Philippines. I got married in japan and divorced as well. But i have divorced certificate and translated in Japanese Embassy here in Philippines.
Where did you get married?
