My friend is on disability support from gov. He wants to sponsor his wife. He wants to stay with her for longer than a normal vacation, may be 4 to 5 months. Can he show that he is willing to move back to Canada after her application is processed? how?
By having ties To Canada. Owning a home, having a job, active Canadian back account. The fact that he gets government funding for disability helps also I think
Is he in a citizen? Not sure he will actually qualify for disability support payments if his abroad for so long. The support program is for those who are too disabled for work who live in Canada. Sponsoring a spouse while on disability payments is not guaranteed. We have seen others refused. There may also be suspicion about marriage because many cultures do not view disabled people as marriage material.
Thank you so much for your advice.
Yes, he is a citizen and cannot work. They are married six years ago and they have a child. Would this support their application?
Can't comment with such little information. He has to be able to show he can support his family which is difficult on a disability income. The other issue becomes how much time he has spent outside of Canada. If you are saying that you are too disabled toward most would also be too sick to travel internationally. Not sure what form of disability payments he is receiving but some don't allow you to travel abroad for months. Has he spent a lot of time outside Canada? In some countries marriage between an abled person and a disabled person is rarely seen. There may be concerns about whether the potential to immigrate factored into the marriage. Why has he not sponsored already? How much time have they spent together since marriage?
Yes, the system permits him to sponsor his spouse. They are married six years ago and they have a child.
- Has he spent a lot of time outside Canada?
-- He spent like 18 months as total during last 6 years outside Canada. He sends her financial support monthly and travels to see her.
- Why has he not sponsored already?
-- I do not know. He will submit the application soon.
-- In his country, marriage between undisabled and disabled person is normal because of their culture.
