Hi everyone...I have recently been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and am in the process of applying for ODSP...I know you cannot sponsor anyone while on Ontario Works(welfare) but can you while on disability?? If so is the process even more difficult? We are going to be applying outland so that he can continue to work while the paper work goes through...any comments would be appreciated
Someone who receives 'welfare' because of a disability can still sponsor a spouse. You'll have to show evidence of your disability. The visa officer will also want to see evidence the two of you can support yourselves once the PR visa is granted, so show any savings or investments either of you have, and show plans your husband has made to find work in Canada. If any family members are willing to help you two when he first arrives (such as offering you a place to stay), get them to write a letter or affidavit stating so.
Thank you for the response...well we were kind of hoping that once the paper work goes through, he can live here but just commute back and forth to work in the states...is that possible?? He has a pretty decent job-the thought did cross our minds for me to move over there, but I do have children and now with being diagnosed with MS,and all the medical appointments, medications specialists etc...it would be better to live over here and I dont want to up root the kids
People do that. With an outland application, there is no reason why he couldn't commute over the border. However, he should just state he is visiting you until he gets his PR visa; not that he has moved to Canada.
Also want to point out (something I learned from pestering ODSP myself) You can't add your husband until he has landed. This is only for outland applications. It took me about two weeks just to get that little piece of information out of ODSP! The local office here is a little.. slow :-X
Good luck! Feel free to message me if you have any questions haha I'm on ODSP myself plus sponsoring my husband so I can relate
