Hello everyone,
I am planning on marrying my boyfriend in 2 weeks. And would like to sponsor him. We have been together for a couple years. However we have a big problem. He came here 10 years ago from Mexico and applied for refugee status and it got denied and he applied for Prra as well. So he does have a deportation order. And he's overstayed by 10 years. We have talked to a couple different lawyers and some say outland and some say inland? If we apply outland, he will need an ARC and I have no idea how long that will take. And another lawyer says inland, but I'm not sure if he even has any chance with inland at all. I need some good advice.

I am in a similar situation. My husband overstayed his visitor visa by two years before CBSA knew about this. He applied for PRRA (July 2017) after we were married and in the process we obtain a lawyer and submitted a March 2018 inland spousal application. We just got the results back from PRRA that it was rejected (obviously) however, they knew he had submitted a spousal sponsorship application through the lawyer we obtain and they are giving us time for that to be processed and finalized. They are only giving us time because we are at the "end" of the application to be approved and know that the processing time has changed to 10 month (as per the mouth of the CBSA officer). My suggestion to you is to NOT procrastinate and submit an inland application ASAP. You might have heard in the news last week that CBSA budget has increase to tackle and be aggressive on the removals of people with no status and failed refugee claims, there will not be any more mercy on this. Best of Luck!!
