Dear Ladies & Gents,
Good Day!

I am ashwin from orissa, My wife is going to canada, New Brunswick as student. I & my 2 kids have visit visa as well. How can i get myself changed to dependent & get workpermit. Should I apply from India or can go to canada on visit and change my status.
Can anyone guide me with steps involved in this.

If your wife has study permit you can apply for open work permit

You can either apply from India or go to Canada as a visitor and apply to change your status to worker. Your choice.

Hi Canuck, Thanks for info. But what is difference between visitor visa and dependent visa. Suppose if some has visit visa what they need to do is go and present their partner's enrollment form and get PGWP.

There is no such thing as a "dependent visa".

They either apply for work permits or TRVs.

Agree. In my case, my husband is working in Canada. So I applied open work permit outside Canada and my 3yo kid as visitor visa. It only took 2 weeks from submission to passport release. I guess you can do the same too.

Ashwin the best option for you is come canada on trv and apply for work permit over here

Thank U. But one last thing suppose if i took visit visa almost 2 years before and now if i am entering will I not be questioned or held at immigration asking me why I did not enter Canada within 6 months I tool visa.
