You need to buy private insurance plan. Could be individual or family depends on the benefit plans that you need. It covers dental, eyecare, prescription drugs and others that your provincial health care doesn't cover.
If you're working full time, employers covers part of the payment of private insurance monthly.
Search for private medical insurance in the province you're settling at. If you're moving to Alberta, Alberta Blue Cross is my top pick.
blue cross is the worst not sure why someone would recommend it if they haven't tried it. The family (or individuals plan) only covers like $500 per year, and even if you opt for and upgrade you get $1200 per year, which is not much to be honest considering a typical visit to an average dentist is ~$600

Its the OP decision which provider he'd like to choose. Its been almost 8 years since Im using their plan. As i mentioned it varies on your individual or family needs and of course your capability to pay.
