I understand I'm allowed to postpone the citizenship test once I get the invitation, but am I allowed to request a certain time? For example I reply saying can I write test in 6 months?

Same question for the oath and ceremony.

If not what are the procedures to follow once I receive the invitation but I want to do it later?

No - you can't select whatever time you please. CIC will re-book you to whatever time they please regardless of whether it's convenient for you. You also must have a good reason for missing it. Otherwise you may find your application simply refused.

I thought if you don't respond or show up to the test time then they just rebook you anyways?

If you don't respond or show up, you will:

"Be rescheduled automatically

We will automatically reschedule you for a new date to write the test if you did not attend the test and you:

did not contact us to let us know, or
did not have a valid reason for missing the test.
We will send you a new notice telling you the new test date. This will be your final notice to write the exam.

This new test date will usually be two weeks or more after the date of the test you missed."

Yes - they will do that once for the test.

However they will not simply reschedule if you miss the oath. See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/cit/admin/general/abandon.asp

It is really not a good idea to miss scheduled events if it is in your power not to.......
