If the sponsor is unsure of the exact date they became a naturalized citizen, is it ok to be an estimate that's within about a year's time? The sponsor does have a Certificate of Canadian Citizenship card, however it only has the date the card was issued. We've also tried calling CIC however they weren't able to provide that information to us and suggested to apply for a citizenship certificate, which would take another 10 months.
Is there any other way to find out the information or would an estimate, within a year's range, be sufficient for the application>
The exact date doesn't really matter. Explain on a separate sheet that you cannot recall the exact date of naturalization and include a copy of the citizenship card. It should be fine.

I had the same issue and I called them last week. The agent asked for the number of my citizenship card and in less than a min gave me the date I had become citizen. I knew, the year and the month but wasn't sure about the day so I called and was able to get an answer right away. try again and maybe you'll have a better luck this time. Good luck.
When they gave the old citizenship cards, they also used to give a commemorative certificate(paper) that had date mentioned on it.
The new citizenship certificates have the oath date on them anyways so its no longer an issue.
Did OP get rid of their oath letter and commemorative paper they got ??

I have the card. I was a child and we got the citizenship with my parents. I checked with my mom and they do not know where the oath letter nor the commemorative paper are located now.
I may apply for a new certificate so that I will find out the actual date later (for my own knowledge). The expect time is 10 months for search of citizenship records and it will be too late to submit the PGP application (I am a cosigner for my in-law) . I will write a letter of explanation and attached to the application.
