This question is related to both Express Entry and IELTS section so though of posting it in both areas:
Can anyone please explain the effect IELTS speaking put on the CRS calculation?
I recently took an IELTS speaking exam. The exam didn't go as per my expectation, so I thought of calculating my CRS before the results are out.
I visited the below link for the calculation:
www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp
Now until I keep my speaking band upto 6.5 while calculating, I don't see much surge in my score but once I enter the speaking band 7, I see 25 points addition in the Foreign Language Job and Official Language proficiency section.
The extra 25 points are added to CRS if I change my band from 6.5 to 7 (or higher) but no points are awarded until band 6.5 for the speaking section.
Just want to clarify below 2 points:
1. Is my above interpretation true? Does IELTS speaking 7 or more add extra 25 points in my CRS?
2. While applying and during selection, does Canada Immigration look for my individual score or overall IETLS band score?

well not just speaking, even other modules in IELTS have big weightage when it comes to overall scores...
if you have 6.5 in either reading or writing, it will negatively impact your score .. ideally to get CLB 9, you should aim for 8,7,7,7 in listening reading writing speaking respectively...
that CRS calculator is accurate... FYI
canada immigration looks at overall CRS score... doesnt matter how much you get in ielts... but obviously higher the score in ielts, higher the CRS score
good luck
Thank you.
But my one question still remain unanswered. Can you illuminate if having a speaking band alone makes difference fo 25 points while moving from 6.5 to 7?

You have to compare ielts to the clb bands. Points are calculated on clb scores, not ielts.

To answer your question, yes, it will make a difference of 50 skill transfer points while moving from 6.5 (CLB 8 ) to 7 (CLB 9) in speaking, provided other sections are CLB 9 or above as well.
Buddy i missed the bus once when I was in your situation. My score in other sections was > CLB 8, but in writing i got a CLB 7. This cost me an ITA! (If i had 7 in writing, rather than 6.5, i were to get the ITA in feb draw!). I re took the IELTS, and my CRS improved by 62 points. Do your maths wisely and take a call asap. I have the score now, but the CRS cutoff has not come down to Feb level. Complete your language proficiency test if your business case is strong.
Good luck!
