Hi , what do you need to cross the border from canada to usa , i live in South Africa and i got a job in canada , I'll be working there in may , im getting a visa and work permit to work there , will they accept my work permit to go through the border to go visit my friend in the usa??

Unless your passport is exempt for visa for US, you will need to get a US visa.
