Hello!

I went to the police service for the Criminal Record...the lady asked me do I want a normal Criminal Record or the one with a finger print (Paper or Electronic)....I went for the basic one....

Seems I made a mistake there....

so do I need a fingerprint for the Criminal Record? If need..which one??

Thanks!

You need the fingerprint report. Basic one is not accepted.

From which country you are applying for PCC/Criminal Record.
I have recently got my PR, I have done Canadian and Indian PCC without Fingerprint and it went without any problem.
I don't know if the rules has been changed, if not you should be fine without fingerprint.

You do not need an RCMP police record from Canada unless if IRCC asked you. If yes, then you need a basic criminal record check which include your photo and fingerprints.

First of all RCMP criminal check is not a mandatory document. Do it only if CIC requests for it.

But if CIC requests for it, you need to do criminal check based on fingerprint.

There are 2 types of criminal check done by RCMP :
1) basic check - done by searching RCMP database using your name and date of birth. Report is generated on the same day itself. This will not be accepted by CIC.

2) fingerprint based check - RCMP database searched using your fingerprints. Accepted by CIC.

Fingerprint can be provided electronically or in paper. Paper based one takes long time to process. For, Electronic fingerprints, you will get your report in 10-15 days.

Does not mean to offend you on this,
but i have submitted basic check for my EE application and got my PR without any problem.

Do I need finger print one for all the states in USA?

I have finger print one for FBI, but I have stayed in 5 different states...Do I need to get the finger print one for all of them?

Did CIC specifically ask you for RCMP check and you submitted the basic check? My guess is that you might not have required an RCMP check at all.

Check this link. It states electronic fingerprints are needed.

It was in my checklist with one of my application, so I applied for it and attached it, not quite sure it was optional document or not.
