I thinks it's better for you to have a cover letter. I based my cover letter on the theme "How can you economically established yourself in Canada.

A letter isn't needed and won't increase your chances of being approved. You either meet the criteria and have enough points or you don't. A letter won't change this.

What does your passport say ? You could use Kumar as the family name. When you submit the passport for final stamping, you will be asked to have separate first and family names.

There is no need for a cover letter. Either you qualify or you don't. A qualitative letter will not be able to change anything.
