Hi all,

I'm a Canadian trying to sponsor my Australian husband and Canadian daughter (born in Japan). I have a few questions regarding the instructions... Under the country specific instructions

- PHOTOS: Supply nine (9) recent photos for each member of your family and yourself (accompanying and non-accompanying). Photos submitted must be properly labeled at the back with the applicant's name, date of birth and signature. Follow the instructions in Appendix B: Photo Specifications

Does this mean I need 9 studio-taken photos all signed? (Appendix B instructions are for the photographer), or can I submit photos taken from home?

- PROOF OF RELATIONSHIP TO SPONSOR: asks for us to supply evidence of our relationship. I'm wondering if these will be returned to me after the application process as they obviously have sentimental value.

Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, you need to have these taken by a professional. You cannot take them yourself at home.

I'm wondering why 9?
It's quite costly for one (which I understand can't be helped), and the studios around here provide 4 or 8 photos per sheet.

It's just the requirement. I don't know why they choose more for some countries and less for others. If they only provide 4 or 8 photos per sheet, you'll have to pay for an extra 4 and scrap the ones you don't need.

They might not return the evidence. Some visa offices do, some don't, some have to be asked first. It is best to send in copies of anything you want to keep, unless the instructions specifically say something has to be the original.
The photos are a specific type of photo - not quite like passport photos - that have to be taken at a studio.
