Hi all,
My question is: How is work experience counted?
I know it’s 30 hours per week for 52 weeks (1 year - full time).
I was wondering if 52 weeks alone is enough. I’ve been working for 54 weeks now, is that enough or do I need to add more weeks?
The reason I’m asking is because I have a new job offer locally and I want to take it before moving to Canada. I don’t want to jeopardise my work experience count since I need 1 year minimum to apply for EE.
Thanks all!
You can check on IRCC website. It should be one thousand something hours (continuously).

Yeah - I work 40 hours per week - so I’ve technically met the requirement. So, as long as I pass that mark, I’m good?

Yes. It’s better to get the reference letter done when you leave.

Thank you! I’ll do that. I was worried that meeting the minimum 52 weeks isn’t enough - that’s why I stayed a bit longer at this job.

As I said, it's calculated based on total hours not weeks. One thing you need to be careful is that express entry considers full-time 30 hours a week. My understanding is that even if you work 40 hours a week, the most you can claim is still 30 hours. You might want to double check this.
at least
1 year of continuous work or 1,560 hours total (30 hours per week)—you can meet this in a few different ways:
- Full-time at 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
- Equal amount in part-time: 15 hours/week for 24 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
- Full-time at more than 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months at more than 1 job = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
Well, 1,560 hours is derived from 52 weeks x 30 hours no?
Since I work 40 hours per week for 54 weeks now, I have 2,160 hours. But since there’s a cap of 30 hours, I have 1,620 hours - which is more than 1,560 hours.
These hours are calculated for one job, one role only.
Will this help?
