I have a question about a cosigner. I have a friend who marrying his partner and both of them are in Canada. They are using the family sponsorship form. She works as a barmaid at this point. Her 2017 taxes indicated that she had made enough to sponsor him and his child who will be coming to Canada. The package got sent back because they wanted more information regarding the finances and she has to use form 1283.
The question is this: Can they get a cosigner. Question three on the application form in the guide indicates that you cannot have a cosigner and reference spouse or partner. On the actual form it says to indicate if your spouse is a cosigner?

There are no co-signers in a spousal sponsorship application. In any other sponsorship case, where a co-signer is relevant, a co-signer can only be a spouse or common-law partner of the sponsor

You need to find out exactly what IRCC said when returning the app. IMM1283 only applies when sponsoring a dependent child who has a dependent child of their own, i.e. the Principal Applicant's grandchild, and financial concerns generally result in a Procedural Fairness Letter, not a returned app.
