Hi all,

I will be filling my PR card renewal application later this year. In the form (IM5444), there is a field (Date you became a PR in Canada) it says the following:

1.4 – Date you became a PR in Canada
Write the date you became a permanent resident of Canada. You can find this on your Record of Landing (IMM 1000) or Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292 or IMM 5688).

I don’t have the IMM 1000 currently but will the date asked be the same as on the back of my PR card? The PR card itself has a field saying “PR Since: xyz date”.
I ask this because on my COPR the date is different because I got it in March 2020 and then I landed in Canada in August 2020 and got my PR card thereafter.

Thanks

It should be date you landed in Canada as PR not when you get COPR .

Ok. So basically the date behind my pr card saying “PR Since: <date> August 2020. That’s also the date I landed in Canada as a PR.

thanks.

Thanks. I got confused bcz I had heard Mr Kubeir Kamal mention the date kn copr to be the PR date in one of his videos a while ago.

But logically too it doesn’t makes sense bcz this way a person getting PR from let’s say India will lose a couple of months out of the five years residency obligation. People don’t just travel to Canada in a week or so after getting their copr lol

Tysm

Stay away from YouTube and other online sources that are not IRCC. They provide a lot of wrong or misleading advice.

The date one became a PR will typically be on the signed/executed version (i.e. after the officer completes at airport), but written by hand. But saying "COPR date" leads to potential confusion. "PR since: [date]" on PR card is more reliable.

People don’t just travel to Canada in a week or so after getting their copr lol

Many do actually.

This is so typical of people watching something and not referring to the context and then coming out on platforms with contradictory understanding.
The video you are referring to was for "e-COPR", which is issued to people inside Canada and hence their date of becoming PR is the date of the issue of their COPR "INSIDE" Canada.
If you are outside Canada, then the date you become PR is the day your COPR has been activated upon your landing in Canada.

So easy to blame someone else for lack of your own understanding of whats being said.
