I have my COPR (valid until October 2016) and my Work Permit (valid until May 2017) , I am doing various travel within the next 3 months, which I need to do and I am not able to wait 60 days for my PR Card.
Has anyone used the work permit to enter Canada, then choose to use the COPR at a certain point before it expires?
Does getting the COPR Visa means I must use it when coming back to Canada once I leave?

Once you completed landing procedure and your COPR has signed and dated, that's means all your permit is no longer valid, you can not use it anymore.
In additional, you aren't allow to return to Canada if you don't have PR card, unless you are from visa-exempt counties or you have applied Permanent resident travel document.
However, in your case, you can still use your work permit until you decide to land and you can use your pr visa just one time when returning to Canada.
