Hey everyone, first time on the forum here and I have a question. I'm very confused with the government website and haven't found anything on this forum yet.
I am hoping to marry my childhood friend next year. We've known each other for 19 years. However I moved to Canada when I was young so now I'm a citizen and she was in China all this time. We started making our relationship official/ documented since August (That's when she came to Canada on a study permit). I saw that the waiting time for PR for spouse in Canada is 27 months on the government website, however we're less than 2 years (documented) into our relationship, and I am marrying her so she will (I think) become a conditional PR. Does anyone have any experience how long between getting married and conditional PR approval takes (Assuming I fill in paperworks ASAP, within a week after getting married)? Or would she be getting something else completely different from conditional PR?
I'm very naive about this whole situation so if I made any assumptions/ errors in what I said I apologize. Hopefully someone can share their experience!
You seem confused about what conditional PR status is. This is no different than having PR status - with the exception of the added clause that you must remain with your partner for two years after becoming a PR to keep your PR status.
In your future wife's case, once you are married, you will sponsor her for PR. If you apply inland, it will take around 27 months to process her application - at which point she will be granted PR status - but with the conditional clause.
One more thing though just out of curiosity. When I'm first applying we'd have a relationship of less than 2 years. But heck after 27 months of waiting for her PR status we'd be well into 2 years then. Would conditional PR still apply then? Not that it matters to me but it's just really odd how that would work out...

Also, since she has a study permit right now and is studying in Canada, if we get married after she finishes her education (assuming she didn't get a work permit or a job yet) and then applies for her PR, does she have to go back to China first since she finished her education and her study permit ended?
Also, the labour government as part of their election platform, plan to abolish the 'conditional' PR status. By the time your application is approved it could very well be gone and your future wife could just get PR without any conditions attached.
